BTS Become First K-Pop Group to Earn 1 Million Shazams..

From identifying that catchy song on the radio to unlocking exclusive artist content, Shazam has become an integral part of any musician’s success story so it’s no surprise that BTS has become the first K-pop group to score a million Shazams.

Earlier today, Shazam shared that BTS’ “Mic Drop” remix with Steve Aoki and Desiigner had been identified by the app one million times — a first for a K-pop group. The company shares exclusively with Billboard that the song was first Shazamed in France on Nov. 16, 2017, curiously about a week before its official worldwide release date on Nov. 24. But since then, Shazam reveals that the “Mic Drop” remix has been identified in every country of the world with the United States leading among all nations, followed by Indonesia, The Philippines, Russia and Canada.

Among all cities, “Mic Drop” was identified the most in Pasay City (in metropolitan Manila in The Philippines), followed by Jakarta (Indonesia), Ambon (also in Indonesia), Athens (Greece) and Sydney (Australia). Meanwhile, Los Angeles, Calif., Oklahoma City, Okla., and Grand Prairie, TX, were the top three Shazamed cities in America for “Mic Drop.” Overall, Shazam’s report indicates the most activity for BTS on the East Coast and in the Midwest, as well as high activity along the West Coast.

Over on Shazam’s U.S. tracking charts, “Mic Drop” Peaked at No. 19 in the week ending on Feb. 4, 2018. This stat ties right into the time the track hit its peak of No. 25 on Billboard‘s Pop Songs chart that ranks mainstream top 40 radio airplay in America, indicating how much additional scope and new listeners the septet reached via U.S. airplay.

With “Mic Drop” achieving its one million worldwide Shazams in about four months and eleven days, the race will inevitably be on to see which K-pop act will be able to compete with that achievement next. Or if the group’s Army of fans can break their own record for the next single.
