Frontier: Netflix Original Gets Release Trailer and Premier Date

Video streaming giant Netflix has released a trailer for its next upcoming original series, Frontier. The series chronicles the North American fur trade of the 1700s and features upcoming Aquaman actor, Jason Momoa, in a lead role as Declan Harp. Harp is a half Irish, half Native American outlaw that is trying to break the Hudson’s Bay Company’s dominance in the fur trade. “Told from multiple perspectives, the series takes place in a world where business negotiations might be resolved with close-quarter hatchet fights, and where delicate relations between Native tribes and Europeans can spark bloody conflicts,” a description of the show reads.

Frontier premiered on Nov. 6, 2016, on Discovery Channel Canada making this their first scripted television show. The series was created by Brad Peyton most famous for his 2015 disaster film, San Andreas. The series will also feature English actor Alun Armstrong and Canadian actors Allan Hawco and Landon Liboiron. The six-episode season will air on Netflix on January 20, 2017, and has already been renewed for a second season.

Jason Momoa has been a rising star over the last decade. Originally from Honolulu, Hawaii, Momoa started modeling at age 19 and parlayed that into an acting role on Baywatch Hawaii. From there, his rise started with a role on Stargate Atlantis as Ronon Dex. He played the titular character in a reimagining of the 1982 classic fantasy film, Conan the Barbarian. His fame saw new heights when he assumed the role as Khal Drogo on the hit HBO series, Game of Thrones. Even though his character only lasted one season, he became a household name for the portrayal and has led to many new opportunities for him. One big opportunity that he has taken advantage of is his casting as Aquaman in the DC Comics movie universe. He first appeared in a scene in Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice where all of the Justice League members were shown on computer surveillance that Batman compiled. Aquaman is set to appear in this year’s Justice League movie and see a standalone movie in 2018.
